Category: Let's talk
someone was telling me a story the other day of how a friend of hers went to see a fortune teller, and this woman said to her, "I can tell you when you're going to die! you will be old, and you will die in a leather chair!". so question is simple, we're all going to die one day, but if it was possible to know how/when, would you wanna know?
hmmmm not sure really. i think i would in a way, if it was going to be tragically, but in another way no. death comes when it comes, early or late for some people, and, even though i'm frightened of it, i'm ready for when it happens.
No I wouldn't. Why should I fear death, if death is, then I am not, if I am, than death is not, so why should I fear something that only exists when I do not? Why should I ask for something that will start it's existence when I end mine? Nope.
well, fear is of the unknown. so yeah sure why not!
No, I don't want to know. I have my own theories, but we can't change it, so what would be the point? Yes we could make sure we do all the things we want, but we'd also probably become morbid, and upset those around us. Secondly, a fortune teller if that's what you wish to call them, really shouldn't be telling that kind of thing. If they are truely able to see such, then they are only supposed to pass on good things, not the really bad, unless they're able to tell you how to prevent a situation.
Absolutely not. The exciting prospect about the future is knowing nothing about it, living every day not even knowing if you will survive another one, trying to get as much out of your life as possible, that's what living is really all about in my opinion. I think once you start planning out your life, knowing when you are going to die, you'll lose some of the spontinaity that "it's all about" really. My mom is a lot into these things and she went to a medium/fortune teller only a few weeks ago who told her she would get really sick next year but would be ok, now she's looking for the signs of getting sick almost every day and I think this is getting her so worried that the fortune teller may be increasing her likelyhood of getting sick merely by suggesting that she will. I think they have huge responsibilities because I think you can't just predict the future to someone, by prediicting it I think you are also creating it or even possibly bringing it about. If you have seen the third (well the final) Star Wars movie, even if it is not a literary masterpiece or anything, it hammers home an interesting point, by avoiding the scene revealed to him Luke Skywalker exactly created that situation in which his wife died. The fear instilled by the vision turned him over to the dark side. Now Star Wars, some may claim, is just a bit silly, but I think this is a very interesting point. I think we are not supposed to know about your future and what it holds because ju knowing about it cannot only hcnage it but also take away the enjoyment of living like we do, and we're not meant to know, otherwise we'd be given a printed time table at birth with the most significant schedules our life will have to follow and probably a web site where we can look up what next week has to offer.
cheers

absolutely not no! i am completely happy to take things as they come and have no desire what so ever to know what the future holds for me in advance. i wish i had counted in my life the amount of times that people have said to me, "o you really should go and see a fortune teller, they are brilliant. everything they said would happen did". that, to me, is completely missing the point though. i don't care whether or not these people can predict accurately or not. the point is i have no interest in knowing in the first place. also i think that brew makes a good point about looking for things to happen once you have been told that they will. i firmly believe that once people here things about there future they spend lots of time trying to prove the predictions true.
Death is a release from the pain of living. I would be worry about the effect my demise would have on those left behind..
I shouldn't worry if I were you Goblin, we won't be sad. I often wish we could afford to bring the date forward for you.
I think the term we want here is, whatever the teller says, becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. We know there is a great mind and body connection. Anyway, I wouldn't want to know, not only for many of the above mentioned reasons, but because I just don't know that I believe in these tellers. Also, if they are for real, then I don't care to be handing them the power to change my life so drastically; it's wrong.
This is something I've wondered about frequently. I could never decide, but now, I don't even want to think about if I want to know or not. Dwelling is a dangerous game.
i do not want to know. i know it's stupid but i will miss the world
No, I wouldn't want to know.
I would at least want to know if it was natural causes or not and to have them not specify if it wasn't natural.
No authentic fortune teller should tell you such a thing --and if you happen to recieve such news then be assured that they are at it! Also an authentic psychic will refuse to tell you the time and manner of your death, as they cannot predict how you will react, this is a safeguard to avoid being sued by irate customers...
I'd want to know, so I could do everything I wished to before hand.
I agree with those who say that if they knew, they'd be too busy thinking about it. I know I would anyway. Although I'd rather not die painfully, and might be curious to know whether or not I would, I'd rather not know anyway because I'm going to die someday reguardless of anything. So I'd rather just keep living and not give myself the chance to dwell on dying too much.

i wouldn't want to know. i want it to be the right time and place not some place some fortune teller says its going to be.
Kevin, that really wasn't a nice thing to say to Goblin. Wishing death upon anybody is just the worst thing in my opinion!
I totally agree with Wildebrew. My thoughts exactly!
RD thankyou however, let the fecker go ahead as I wish death upon myself every day.
no Goblin, seriously if that's how you feel, maybe you need some professional help?
I have and to no avail still I refuse to give in to those who would prefer it.
well good for you! and ya know keep at it! your family for one thing! *smile*
They are my only reason for waking up especially Alasdair. Maybe I need to go climbing, it's been too long since I was scared shitless, and its snowing up there!...smile
so who actually thinks the fortune tellers exist anyway?
I do think that some people might have some ability for ESP. I also think that some people who publicly
advertise it for pay are usually frauds, but that some people at least have a very good sense of intuition,. I'm not sure if I could believe in stuff like cards, palm reading and using things like that to tell the future though.

I have noticed that they invariably tell you the most plausible nonsense that might well happen in the course of your life..My partner had a reading and the woman she said 1 thing that really surprised her, the letter A is extremely important you and those who mean the most to her all have names beginging with A! I had never met the woman nor had my brother, who is highly, genuinely, psychic.
Lol and they still ask you for your date of birth haha
Yes, I hate the mysteries of the unknown.
if i could cheet death I would! I don't want to die! there's too many wonderful things ahead for humans, and I so want to be there to experience it all! I wish! stupid I know, but that's me so ...
In theory, I definitely wouldn't want to know, for all the reasons everyone's already gone into. But if I was offered, I don't know if I could leave it alone, even for my own good.
My answer woudl be yes and no. I think, because right now I'm going through some changes in my life, I might want to know. My parents went to see a psychic, and they were very shocked about what the woman said. They would not tell me though frown. I remember as a teenager wanting to know what was said, but they would not tell me. So in answer, I guess I might want to know what the future might hold for me, but I don't know if I'd want to know when I was going to die. Hell, what if it were tomorrow or next week, wouldn't that kinda freak a person out?
In one way, yes, I'd want to know, and in another way I wouldn't. I'd want to know so that I could do all of the things I've dreamed of doing before I died. I wouldn't want to know in a way because I just like things to come as they come. And, those fortune tellers give you nothing but nonsense.

I don't want to know when I'm going to die, I believe that in life you subconsciously choose paths to follow, without questioning them, it is only later, when you may think what might've happened if you'd done one thing and not the other thing. Dying isn't something you can control, even if you know the day when you're going to die and the cause, there is still no way that you can prevent it, because the paths that you choose to subconchiously follow will control what happens in the future. Even if you try to control your every move consciously in your lifetime, you probably won't be able to, because the controlling of your life will not be able to fit in plausibly with the way you would need to live your life,or the way that society expects you to live your life because of personal sircomstances, strengths and weaknesses, or having opportunities or whatever.
Naw, I think there are some things that are mysteries and that are unknown, and the day I die shall be one of them. I think if I knew I'd probably just start acting odd, well, more odd than I do usually. There's just some stuff you don't need to know. Relax, live your life, that kind of thing.
i really want to know so I am prepared. death strikes any moment. and you have to prepare. but most of the time. its very unexpected leaving no chances to finish your duties.
Well if it's something that can be prevented like a car accident, tornado, being murdered, or something along those lines, then yes. That way it won't happen.
However if it's due to a natural cause like old age (you know how old people develope all sorts of probelms), disease of some sort, heart attack or some medical deal along those lines. Then I guess I'll accept death when it comes.
I don't think a fortune teller or those psyicics know the real truth anyways.
